Sleeping arrangements

Where does your baby sleep at?

I must admit that I am not the type of parent who would co-sleep with their child past a few months of age. My daughter was never interested in sleeping with me, and by one month of age she was in a crib in her bedroom. My son stayed in a cradle next to our bed for the first three months of his life, and came into bed with us throughout the night to nurse.

Co-sleeping is good because it can help Mom get those few hours of desperately needed sleep, especially when the baby is very young. It’s convenient for nursing, since Mom doesn’t have to worry about getting out of bed and going to get baby.

Co-sleeping can be an inconvenience, though. For one thing, most mothers – and most fathers – do not sleep as heavily when they know there is a child in the bed with them. For another, babies can become too accustomed to sleeping with somebody (or two somebodies!) and may fuss and balk at sleeping on their own.

What are your thoughts on co-sleeping?
