Before having children, I scoffed at the idea of “Daddy’s girl” and “Mama’s boy”. I thought it was a simple case of enforcing and promoting gender stereotypes with no basis of truth.
Then I had my daughter. From birth she has been a Daddy’s girl – reserving all of the smiles for him, doing little things for him that she rarely, if ever, does for me, saving all the kisses and hugs for him, and in general being much more affectionate with him than she is with me.
And now I have my son. From birth he has been more interested in me, more clingy with me, more cuddly with me. I get all of those special gummy smiles. I get the snuggles, I get the giggles and shrieks of delight.
What about your child(ren)? Do they follow these gender stereotypes, or have they broken the mold?
