Once upon a time, I found an awesome consignment shop. The items offered were in excellent condition and very reasonably priced. I could buy three grocery bags stuffed with baby clothing for under $50.
But like most fairy tales, it wasn’t true. Not for long.
Last year the consignment shop was sold to a new owner. Prices have slowly crept up to nearly brand-new standards. A five pack of onesies, for example, is priced at $8 (brand new store price: $9). A used bumbo seat? $30 (brand new store price: $36). Plain toddler sized t-shirts? $3 – $7 (brand new store price: $4-$10).
Today was the last straw. I took in four baby gowns – purchased at $12.99 for two, two pairs of toddler shorts and three shirts. The owner offered me $9 for everything. NINE DOLLARS for $60 worth of stuff. I guarantee that she will price these items at nearly new prices.
She also rejected two summer bubble suit outfits. One was rejected because it had a pen-point sized red dot on it), the other because it had a slight dust smudge on it from a cuff. Both have been sprayed liberally with Shout! and are in the washer on a high spin cycle.
At this rate I think I will just freecycle everything. Why bother to kill myself to keep things in immaculate condition and get tossed a few pennies for it?

Is there a difference between a consignment shop and a thrift shop?
All the ones I’ve been to bad been.. the same as a thrift shop which could just be a local thing but I’ve never been to one where prices were that high on anything! That’s insane!
