Pennsylvania representative Peter J. Daley is pushing for a bill that would ban smoking in cars where children are present. This law was rejected when it was first introduced in 1988, but with increasing awareness about the dangers of secondhand-smoke, along with the existence of similar laws in other states (Louisiana and Arkansas), and laws-in-the-making in a few other states (California, Michigan, New York and Maine, to name a few), it may have more of a fighting chance this time around.
What do you think? Are a smoker’s rights being infringed upon? Rightfully so? Or wrongfully so?
In my opinion, a person’s rights are non-existence when a behavior they are exhibiting is directly harmful to another, no matter the circumstances. Secondhand-smoke is dangerous, and I am very supportive of this bill.
