Mmm, crunchy

Are you a crunchy mom?

Basically, if you practice one of the following, you are on your way to the snap, crackle, CRUNCH:

extended breastfeeding (beyond a year)
cloth diapers
homeschooling
drug-free births
baby wearing
adoptive breastfeeding
co-sleeping or family beds
full-time parenting

There are others, as well, but that starts to hit at the heart of it

My answers are beneath the cut.

extended breastfeeding – probably. My son is ten months old and is a total boob baby. Even when he’s offered cups and bottles he tosses them aside and howls for me. Besides, breast milk is free – cow’s milk is ridiculously expensive! To cut costs I barely drink what we have – I leave it for our toddler.

cloth diapers – yes! But my numero uno reason? Money. I’m a thrifty bitch whenever possible. During the first month of my son’s life, we were spending close to $80 a MONTH on disposable diapers for him and his then 22 month old sister. I said eff that and spent about $100 on cloth diapers from a local diaper service company. We’ve been doing cloth ever since. I have about two extra loads of laundry per week, which doesn’t cost much at all, especially since we have a high efficiency washer and a energy star dryer. Wink

homeschooling – hell no. First, I don’t feel qualified to homeschool. Second, I would go batshit crazy with kids around 24/7.

drug free births – I wanted one with my daughter, but after two days of labor I couldn’t take it any longer and requested an epidural. After not quite three hours of it I was ready to push, so it was turned off. With my son, I had a c-section (medically necessary).

baby wearing – yes! But only when we’re out, because it’s easier than hauling around a double stroller or clogging up two shopping carts.

adoptive breastfeeding – n/a, but I would definitely do it if the need arose.

co-sleeping or family beds: yes to co-sleeping, but only partially – my little guy was in a cradle next to our bed, and came in the bed to nurse, but that was it. NO to family beds. NO NO NO.

full-time parenting – what? I’m a work-at-home-mom… though I do parent full time. *shrug*
