Has anyone had any experience with a baby with a milk sensitivity? Alyssa (my two and a half year old) never had any sensitivities, so introducing her to new foods was a breeze. Ryan, on the other hand, is showing a sensitivity to milk. We tried giving him a bit and it had disastrous results. He was at my mom’s for a few days and the milk based formula she gave him (I wasn’t around at the time to give her pumped milk) also caused disastrous results.
And by disastrous results I mean toxic poop that leaves his little butt with nasty sores and sore areas that take several days of vigilant diaper changing and ointment applying care to clear up.
Ryan will be a year old on the 26th, but obviously I can’t switch him to cow’s milk or milk based formula or toddler based formula. I’m not so sure about soy, either… and whether our budget could handle it.
I don’t mind nursing him past a year… I’m just wondering how long such sensitivities last, and if any other mom has been in my shoes.

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that my son Logan had both milk and soy sensitivities. We were told to keep him totally away from them both until he was a year. From about 3 months on he was not given soy or milk. At 10 months I had him allergy tested and he was showing no issues so we went ahead and tried milk.. He has done great this time around
We will be trying soy soon. He is now 11 months old.
If he is having a sensitivity bring it to your doctors attention. We got our insurance to cover hypo-allergenic formula for a year due to Logan’s sensitivities.
Sorry that you are dealing with this. I know how frustrating it can be. I hope that you are able to figure something out soon
Christina
