Since becoming a mother (twice over!), I can tell you the physical changes, both temporary and permanent, that I have experienced. For instance, while I was pregnant with Alyssa, I developed a sensitivity to the shrimp and shrimp sauce that Burger King carried. When I was around it (I didn’t even have to touch it!), my face broke out in a splotchy, purple-ly rash. When I was pregnant with Ryan, everything gave me heart burn. Water gave me heart burn!
Then there are the lasting changes. Wider hips, increased sensitivity in certain “places”, and god, the horror stories I could tell you about my breasts! Lactating twice, breastfeeding Alyssa for ten months, breastfeeding Ryan for nearly fourteen months (he is still nursing two to three times per day), going from DD to G to DDD to G and back to DDD again…
But really, you know what has really changed for me? My sleeping habits. I used to be a heavy sleeper. I slept through alarms so much that I had to purchase extra loud ones and have them on the loudest settings. Now? The slightest noise will startle me out of even the deepest sleep. All those nights of listening for and being woken by crying infants, I suppose..
What has changed for you since becoming a mother?
