Alyssa’s third birthday is right around the corner! Like other years, we are doing a themed birthday party. Her first birthday was themed in Winnie the Pooh. Her second birthday was themed in Blue’s Clues. For her third birthday, we settled on the shimmering butterfly theme that Party City carries:
Even though it was a bit early to do so, I purchased all the Shimmering Butterfly party supplies we’ll need back in August. My closet is stuffed with bags containing plates, bowls, cups, napkins, balloons, streamers, a centerpiece, and a few other odds and ends. The invitations went out several weeks ago. With the exception of Dan’s uncle O, and Danielle and her husband Matt, everyone we invited will be attending.
Now I need to think of food! Ryan’s birthday was in July, so naturally we took the easy route and had barbecue fare – burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, and all of the fixings. But for a very late October birthday? My mom and I were tossing around ideas including macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, meatballs and perhaps sandwich items. Any suggestions? I need to have enough food on hand to feed about fifteen people, all of whom have healthy appetites!

My little sister is turning three in a couple weeks. Like you it was harder to plan a late october birthday with food that would fit a lot of people. We decided on:
Crockpot Macaroni & cheese
Crockpot sloppy joes
Taco Bar (seasoned beef/chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, salsa, taco sauce, black olives, avocados, refried beans, onions with hard/soft taco shells)
Chips & vegetables with dip
We also have a lot of children attending so we like to make little ziplock bags depending on the meal. Since we’re doing tacos we bought corn chips and intend to put them in the ziplocks and let the children add their own toppings and shake the bag for an less messy and fun meal.
For beverages, my family absolutely loves the 3-part punch of 1 bottle gingerale, 1 bottle 7up and some huge scoops of raspberry sherbet.
Good luck with the party!
