Ryan, my fourteen month old, had the misfortune of picking up the stomach bug that my mom and younger brothers had last week. While he hasn’t experienced the vomiting they were plagued with, he is having problems with diarrhea. It isn’t continuous or too “loose”, but at the same time it’s very potent stuff, and has been eating his poor skin up, despite me checking on the status of his diaper every ten to fifteen minutes.
I have been using the same remedy on him that I used on Alyssa. It’s the same remedy that my mother did with me, and that my grandmother did with my mother. I thought I would share it with you, because there are SO many methods of treating diaper rashes and sore butts, and this is the one that works best for me.
First, make sure to gently dab and blot your baby’s skin to remove all traces of “mess”. Now, run a warm bath. Mix in a half gallon of cold (yes, cold) milk and two to three cups of oatmeal (instant is preferred, since it will dissolve faster). Since you will be adding cold milk, you may want to check the temperature of the bath water and consider adding some hot water, just to even things out.
Now, let baby soak for as long as possible. In Ryan’s case, he’d be content to live in the bath tub. Of course, don’t go to extremes.
Once your baby is finished soaking, rinse off with regular, milk and oatmeal free warm water. Pat baby dry. Now get some butt cream or ointment – I recommend A+D – and slather on a nice, thick layer. On top of that, add a layer of medicated powder – I recommend Ammens, but Johnson’s is an adequate substitute.
Rinse and repeat as needed, but you should notice a definite and sometimes drastic improvement within a few hours of the treated bath and diapering.

My home remedy for diaper rashes is browned flour. You put the flour in a pan and brown it like your making gravy (just dont add water or anything to it) Let it cool and apply to washed dry baby booty
This helped a lot with my daughter when she was sick. Other then that A+D is the best.
