Carseat potato

While in a grocery store parking lot yesterday evening, I happened to glance over and see a father putting his baby girl, who looked to be a year old or so, in her car seat. The car seat was front facing. Somehow I doubt that the child was front facing because she outgrew surpassed the rear facing limitations. Rather, I believe she was front facing because of the portable DVD player strapped to the back of the passenger seat in front of her. The portable DVD player was definitely for her, as it was playing Baby Einstein.

Forget the fact that I think Baby Einstein is a complete load of crap and doesn’t do anything beneficial for toddlers or children – at least nothing any more beneficial than other kids television shows and movies. The fact that these parents had a portable DVD player exclusively for their baby, who was well under the age of a child who should be watching ANY television, was disgusting.

I really wanted to call the parents out on their stupidity. They’re going to have enough trouble getting the kid to turn off the TV when she’s older. Why on earth would they WILLINGLY potato-fy their baby? Whatever happened to giving a baby a toy or a picture book to keep him or her occupied during a car trip?

I hate those DVD players, anyway. :P
