My grandfather has a grandfather clock. I think of it whenever I take notice of any of the beautiful Howard Miller grandfather clocks that 1-800-4clocks.com has on their website. Grandfather clocks are gorgeous, traditional clocks that complete any household.
While a grandfather clock is something that will be out of our price range for the next several years (dare I say that the price of the grandfather clock I like is how much we owe on our car?!), if I could buy one right now, I would select this grandfather clock. It is very traditional. While its chimes are a bit fancier than the chimes on my grandfather’s grandfather clock, in all other ways it reminds me exactly of my grandfather’s clock.
And as this blog entry points out, I am not alone in liking grandfather clocks because they remind me of the grandfather clocks my grandparents had.
My grandfather always kept his grandfather clock in the dining room, probably because the dining room wasn’t really a dining room, but more of a library, with floor to ceiling bookshelves lined with books and tasteful trinkets and knick knacks, two comfortable upholstered chairs, a few potted plants, a buffet, and of course, the grandfather clock.
I would definitely want a similar setup for my grandfather clock. I would hate to have it out in the “open”, where it could possibly be damaged.
