I wish I had their immunity

From the last week of August until almost the end of September I was sick with a cold that I could not seem to shake. Rest, chicken noodle soup and OTC meds didn’t seem to do anything. I survived on Dayquil, Tylenol Cold and Nyquil for those three weeks. My mother was also sick.

Alyssa? Never sick. Ryan? Never sick. Dan? He called me up one night to whine that he didn’t feel good. The next day he was back to normal.

Alyssa and Ryan are obviously healthy as horses. Between good genes and being breastfed they’re good to go. Me? I don’t know what happened. My immunity went to hell in a hand basket during my teen years. Since eighth grade or so, every time I get a cold or virus I get hit hard with it, and it hangs and hangs and hangs and hangs.

Dan’s robust immunity sometimes puzzles me, considering that his mother smoked like a chimney during her pregnancy and after, and stuffed cheap ass formula down his throat. My mother did not smoke, and I was breastfed for the first six months of life.

Go figure…

Anyway, what brought this up was a stomach bug Alyssa had yesterday. It was the same one my mother was sick with for six day. Alyssa was sick with it from noon yesterday until 7pm last night. Amazing!
