We’re broke. Seriously. After taking care of my brothers for a month, bailing my mom out of a financial mess, and then spending $300+ on a new water heater, we are now behind in our bills. And, I just found out today that it’s going to cost us almost $600 to get our propane tanks filled up next Friday. We have a week to go and about ten gallons or so left. Needless to say, we’re not using the stove much (yay for electric skillets, toaster ovens, microwaves and crock pots!), and we’ve turned the heat down to 65. Cold, I know, but not as cold as it would be if we HAD NO HEAT WHATSOEVER. We’ve been dressing the kids in layers, keeping socks on, opening the blinds during the day for sunlight, and shutting the kids’ bedroom doors at night to help keep the heat in.
Anyway, this sudden realization of WE HAVE NO MONEY has made us decide to improvise a bit for Christmas. Dan’s brother, for example, will be receiving a coffee pot that I received a few weeks ago for a product review (the review is here). Dan’s other brother is going to be receiving a jacket that Dan bought but hasn’t ever worn, because he’s too tubby for it. My nine year old brother has it in his head that his television and VCR MUST match. His don’t, because the television is black and the VCR is silver. He has been coveting our black colored VCR for several months. So, we’ll be giving him our VCR for Christmas.
Meanwhile, we do have a few things tucked away for Alyssa, there’s two gifts for Dan (he doesn’t know about one
), we have a gift for Dan’s oldest younger brother (he’s my age), and I just bought Ryan and Dan’s mother gifts tonight. We’ll make it through Christmas by the skin of our teeth. Blah.
