I have been using sponsored blog entries as a way to earn money on my blogs (this blog, jenn.nu, kitty.nu, in-my-bag.com and xoxo.nu) for nearly a year now. It’s nice to be able to use hobbies I love — blogging and web design — in order to make a little extra money. Believe me when I say that when there isn’t a lull because of the holidays and tax season, I can easily make a hundred dollars in a week’s time.
Because I’m often so busy with Alyssa, Ryan, and family and life in general, I have times where I’m stressed about the time and energy it will require to research the topics I’m going to be writing about. It’s times like these that I wish I had an easier way of making money – such as slapping up a few links that expire on a certain date and let that be that. Here and there, I have been blessed with those opportunities.
A new type of blog advertising I recently heard about is audio ads. Audio ads, where bloggers Earn from every visitor, is just how it sounds: a blogger inserts a code that generates a brief, five second audio advertisement every time a visitor loads the website. Bandwidth is not an issue, because the audio ads are remotely hosted on the advertisers’ websites. The ads are short, and do not play again unless the visitor moves on to another page on the website.
In addition to self-hosted blogs and websites, the audio ad program found at audioadhosting.com can be used on many social network sites, including Facebook and MySpace.
While the idea of being able to Earn from every visitor, even if they have their speakers muted or don’t have speakers at all, is appealing, I can’t help but to hesitate at placing such ads on any of my websites. I have been rather traumatized at times by loading several websites or MySpace profiles at once and being bombarded with one or more horrible songs, and then scrambling to cycle through my open tabs to figure out which site is the culprit so I can turn off the music and/or close the website. Do I really want to annoy my website visitors with audio ads?
But at the same time, if the audio ads really are only five seconds in length, and are professional and playing a decent but not loud volume, then I suppose it wouldn’t be all that bad.
I don’t know. Maybe I could do a test run on one of my blogs — perhaps this one? — and do a poll to find out what the viewers think about the ads.
