I took Ryan to the doctor today. He hasn’t been to the doctor since December 3rd, for his long overdue one year check up (we were very busy around his birthday, then dealing with insurance changes, and then waiting for an appointment for the initial one hour appointment with his new doctor). Before then, probably sometime around four or six months of age. He and Alyssa don’t really get sick, so there’s never been a need to take them to the doctor!
However, today there was a need. Ryan somehow picked up RINGWORM. Ick. I had ringworm about four and a half years ago, but at the time I picked it up from one of our cats, and stupidly it spread all over both my legs. I still have light scars on my thighs in different areas. Would you believe it took over six months for the stuff to finally go away? And that was with daily application of creams, and keeping pants on as much as possible to prevent the spreading of the infection!
I’m not sure how Ryan picked up ringworm, as our cats definitely do not have ringworm. I’m assuming that when we were out last week at Target, or a few days before at the grocery store, he picked it up there by rubbing his face all over the railings of the carts. You know, to a certain extent I always scoffed at the sanitizing wipes people wipe down shopping cart handles with, because to a certain extent you need to have some germs around. And as my grandmother always said, every kid needs a peck of dirt. But now… he’s picked up a fungal infection. Ew.
So off to the doctor we went this morning, despite me being there yesterday with Alyssa for her three year check up. I had asked then for a prescription to be called in, but was told he’d have to be seen first. Okay then. Let’s waste time, money and resources to make an obvious diagnosis. *eyeroll* But hey, I now have the prescription called in to CVS and waiting to be picked up!
