As a parent, I find it rather difficult to find kids music that doesn’t have me climbing the walls with annoyance after the CD has repeated twice. Yet I don’t want the kids to be stuck listening to my music all the time. And I definitely don’t want them to go without all music altogether!
Lately, we’ve been alternating between two albums. And by lately I mean over the last several weeks – both in the car and here at home. And amazingly, I’m not tired of either!
The first album is one my mother bought for my daughter’s third birthday, but misplaced and didn’t find to give to her until Christmas. It’s Parents: My First Sing-Alongs. The songs featured are typical nursery rhymes and preschool songs, including Itsy, Bitsy Spider, London Bridges and The Farmer in the Dell. However, they all have an upbeat, rhythmic folky beat to them that makes them rather enjoyable to listen to.
The second album is one I remember fondly from when I was a child, when I had the opportunity to see the band in person. It is Trout Fishing in America’s Big Trouble. My favorite songs from this album are The Window and What I Want is a Proper Cup of Coffee, but I honestly enjoy all of the songs on the album!
I’m always on the lookout for new kid and parent friendly albums to add to our listening list, so if you can think of any, please let me know in the comments!
