One of the places we lived at had a can crusher mounted outside the back door. Our landlord showed it to us, and said that while we didn’t have to use it, he would appreciate it if we did, so we could keep from using up excess space in our garbage bags, which went into a community dumpster. Since, obviously, if a lot of excess space was quickly eaten up, the dumpster had to be emptied more frequently, which could run into more money for the landlord, which would then have the potential to jack up our rent.
I think I used that can crusher maybe ten times during the two years we lived there. What can I say? We don’t buy many canned goods, and most of the time I make our own soup.
