Any construction workers reading this?

Category:

Tonight I had to take my twenty month old son into the bathroom with me. Not a big deal, normally, as 99% of the time at least one kid is with me while I’m taking care of business. But this time it was in a public bathroom. And the toilet? It was a good ten feet away from the door. The door that locked with a simple handle that had a push-in button. The kind of handle that you barely have to depress in order to release the lock and open the door (it swings outwards).

Did I mention my son knows how to operate door handles? And he likes to play with door handles? And most assuredly would have yanked on that door handle and been out the door like a shot, leaving me to scramble after him with my pants around my ankles?

Trust me when I say it would not have been a flattering moment for yours truly.

So constructions workers, or whoever it is that lays out the plans for these public restrooms: please, for the love of God and our shreds of dignity, think of the moms who may be alone in the bathroom with curious, door-handle-loving toddlers!

I have this problem all of the time. I hover and stretch my arms like 6 feet to keep the door closed because my child is trying to open it.

You think that’s bad. If you can only see the public bathrooms here in my country. :)
