Canadian diamonds were discovered by Chuck Fipke and Dr. Stu Blusson. The pair searched the untouched Canadian tundra throughout the 1980’s for deposits of minerals associated with diamonds.
In the mid 1980’s they found deposits of the minerals they were searching for. After the discovery of mineral deposits, it took them until 1991 to find the first economically viable diamonds.
Currently there are many diamond companies drilling in the Canadian tundra including diamond giant De Beers and BHP minerals who work with Fipke and Blusson.
The Canadian government holds strict regulations the ethical mining and production of Canadian tundra ideal cut loose diamonds. They certify each true Canadian tundra diamond to make sure it was mined and produced with means held to the strictest degree of ethics. This means no child labor and no “Blood Diamonds.”
Whether or not their ethical diamond production will be rewarded is yet to be determined. Canadian Tundra Diamonds are more expensive than similar diamonds from other sources. It is largely the consumer’s choice at this point, whether they will choose ethics or choose to save some money.
