I really like wooden swing sets, but the price tag makes me shy away. We wound up buying a metal swing set for Alyssa and Ryan last summer. I didn’t originally want to get metal, because metal can rust, but so far the swing set we have ($179, Toys ‘r Us) has survived fall, winter, spring and summer, and not a single sign of rust.
Of course, they do tell you to do your part in protecting your swing sets. Cover slides in the winter, take down swings and put away the chains to prevent rusting and cracking of plastic, and to add clear jelly/lubricant around junctions, nuts and bolts to prevent water and moisture from getting in and settling.
