I grew up in Philadelphia. In fact, I was in my teens when we moved from Philly to a rural area. I trick-or-treated faithfully every Halloween, including 1995′s Halloween, when I was sick throwing up but still managed to drag my sorry ass out in my Halloween costume for about an hour.
My first Halloween in my new town, I almost missed because the trick-or-treat date wasn’t on Halloween itself. While Halloween falls on the 31st of every October, up here they change things around to hold it on the 25th, 26th, 27th, etc. The reasoning? Supposedly by changing the date and time, the chances of having pranks and misbehaving miscreants out on the streets is greatly reduced. Pfft. Personally, I don’t see how holding Halloween night a few days early is going to successfully deter kids from egging homes and toilet papering trees. Those are things done on an OCCASION, not a specific DATE.
