With two little kids and a LOT to do on Christmas Day, you better believe my husband and I planned ahead to the best of our ability!
When it came to the presents themselves, we broke tape seals, detached toys from packages and then used one or two small strips of regular Scotch tape to keep them in place, removed those pesky twist-ties that seem to be done up in knots half the time, and made sure batteries were working (to preserve our sanity, only ONE of out of 22 presents required batteries!) before wrapping everything up. This way, it would be a simple step from unwrapping a present to actually playing with a present.
Since Alyssa was naturally conservative with opening each present in a slow and precise manner, it was easy to separate toys from wrapping paper as we went along.
And once gift opening was all over with, I cleaned up the living room (with Alyssa’s help, while Ryan put toys away), while Dan headed to the kitchen to start on the pot roast crock pot dish for dinner.
My only regret about Christmas morning? Forgetting to borrow my mother’s camcorder to record the gift opening!
