Five’s a crowd

With the exception of one or two nights, Alyssa has been coming into bed with us every night for the past two weeks. She claims that she’s scared. Scared of what? I have no idea, because we never really get an answer out of her.
I admit, when she first started doing this I thought it was just dramatics, because she’ll do it to try (and ultimately fail, heh) to get out of going to bed. So the one night I locked our bedroom door, so that I would actually be woken up when she tried to get into bed with us. Well, I was woken up at 5am, and at 4:45am the night after that. She was disoriented and crying, so obviously no dramatics or faking. :(

Anyway, five’s a crowd, because there have been at least five bodies in our queen bed every night. Now, a queen is a decent size bed, and it’s perfect for Dan and I. But we usually have Blueboy join us (he sleeps on top of Dan’s pillow), and Leah is always with us (around our legs, beneath the covers). Sometimes Kirin will join us too — he hangs out at the foot of the bed on Dan’s side. And then when you add Alyssa to the mix…

Yeah. I woke up feeling pretty crowded and squished this morning. Dan was smashed up against me because Alyssa and Kirin were on the other side of him, I couldn’t really stretch my arms out because Blueboy was on MY pillow, and I couldn’t straighten my legs because Leah was sprawled out at the foot of the bed.

Today was one of those days where I got out of bed just to GET OUT OF BED, not because I was actually ready to wake up!

Eeek! I know how you feel. Because of the way I sleep (been called ‘a little to the left’- basically on my stomach with my left leg pulled up and propping me slightly) and the way my man sleeps (he likes several inches between himself and the bed’s edge) I already feel cramped, but our labrador retriever (they’re not small!) likes to join us (I’d rather have my dog than anyone though, so I deal), both cats sometimes (the girl likes to sleep ON my back) and then we’ll sometimes be joined by either a crying kindergartener or preschooler. Jeez! We only just got a new bed in November, but its time to upgrade :/

And oh, yeah, ours is a queen also. They just aren’t big enough!
