It has taken over a year of therapy, constant interaction and basically TEACHING Ryan how to play, but he is finally playing when we go to the playground. It used to be that we would go to the playground, and Alyssa would play while Ryan just roamed around, touching signs, touching trees, and in general just spacing out. Now? He still isn’t interacting with other kids (though he will occasionally go up to another child or an adult and give them a stream of Bean babble, which to me sounds like a mixture of English, Furby and Sim), but he is PLAYING. He swings, he goes down the slides, he climbs all over the equipment. I love it.
In fact, at last week’s Easter egg hunt, he was more interested in the playground equipment than finding Easter eggs (or picking up the ones that were sitting right in front of him):
Yesterday at the playground:
I love how far Ryan has come. In some ways it seems like just yesterday that Ryan was still in a crib with his cute Classic Pooh baby crib bedding, and I had no clue what was in store for us. And here we are, almost two years later, with incredible progress!
