I’ve been wanting to take Alyssa to get her hair cut and styled for at least a week now. But between Dan’s work schedule and preschool and other appointments, I didn’t have the chance to go until yesterday. And then I had to bring Ryan with me. I was really dreading that, because I didn’t know how Ryan would tolerate having to sit in one spot for more than .2 seconds. But amazingly, he did really well. We waited about ten minutes until it was Alyssa’s turn, and then the stylist spent about fifteen minutes on her hair. I kept Ryan strapped in his stroller and occupied with a VTech laptop (a Christmas gift from one of Dan’s aunts), a chewy tube (chew-wee too, if you ask Ryan) and several pouches of Capri Sun. He was fantastic, and I was relieved.

Then Dan did Ryan’s hair yesterday evening. The last two attempts at getting his hair cut by a stylist were pretty much disastrous, so we decided to do it ourselves with a grooming kit that Dan has for his own hair. Yeah, Ryan still screams his head off, but we’re his parents, and we’re not subjecting anyone else to the screaming and thrashing. Though I must say, Ryan surprised us both last night. I still had to hold his hands down and get him in a bit of a headlock (this is in addition to him being strapped into his booster seat), and he flinched and tried to wiggle away, but he didn’t scream like the last time.

Maybe there’s hope after all?
