Around 3:30pm Alyssa and Ryan start clamoring about going to the pool. We usually go later in the day because…
a) it’s cheaper
b) the sun isn’t as strong, so I don’t have to be as vigilant/overzealous/paranoid about sunscreen and sunburn
c) it’s less crowded
So I said okay. Alyssa changes into her swimsuit, I help Ryan change into his, I get into mine, we get in the car and pack it full of pool toys and floats and bags of towels and extra swim diapers and my purse and my camera and head down to the local pool… only to find out that it’s closed to the public because of a private swim meet. Ooo-kay. Now what? Ryan starts having a fit, and I hate to have to disappoint him and Alyssa and take them both back home and listen to their crying and wailing.
Light bulb moment! I remembered seeing a glimpse of a community pool about five miles in the other direction of where we live, so I drove over to it… only to find out that they too were closed.
BUT, they would be re-opening at 7pm for a 7pm-9pm swim. Apparently they do it every Tuesday. Whoo hoo! By now it’s just about 5pm, so I tell the kids we’re going to get dinner, go home and eat it, and then I promise and swear to God and all that is holy we will come back to the new pool at 7pm.
And we did. And the kids loved it. And so did I!
