I think the thing that sucks the most about motherhood is that you never ever ever get a day off. Even on the rare occasion when you get out without the kids and have a few hours or perhaps even a few days to yourself, you’re still thinking about the kids, worrying the kids, and you know that you’re on-call if something should go wrong, and that you’ll drop everything in a heart beat in order to run back home.
Case in point: right now Daniel and I are at Panera Bread, and even though we should be here to relax and enjoy the quiet atmosphere, the delicious (yet horribly overpriced) food and the free wifi, our minds — or at least mine — are still on Alyssa and Ryan, who are at home with my mom. And as much as I am enjoying the peace and quiet here, I am looking forward to going home and being with Alyssa and Ryan. I’m also eager to get home to put Leah outside, since I have the nagging feeling that my mom left her crated.
I haven’t been doing too much since we got here. Dan and I split a chicken chipotle sandwich, he had chips and I had a chocolate chip cookie, and in between reading up on insurance online I’ve been doing some work for a client, and browsing through my feed reader. I also registered a number for Google Voice, since the Google overlords deigned to extend an invitation to me.
So, how is your Tuesday night going?
P.S. It’s starting to get loud in here… just as loud as it is at home, except it’s a different and unfamiliar kind of loud. I think it’s time for us to go!
