I took Alyssa to Toys ‘r Us last week and let her pick out her very first Barbie doll. She is most definitely hooked. The first Barbie was a blonde with a pink paint-on suit and a removable tutu. She also pinked out a pink horse to go with it. Then we went to Target the other night and she talked me into Wedding Day Barbie. Now she’s yapping about the Barbie doll house, a car, a little tote on wheels, and god knows what else.

What have I done? Hehe.
Oh well.
She’s definitely a girl, through and through! When I was a kid I was quite the tomboy. I mutilated my Barbies, then tossed them aside in favor of legos, K’nex, Mighty Max, Matchbox cars, piles of dirt, bikes, scooters, roller skates and male friends (any female friends I had I didn’t get along with too well; we fought like cats and dogs).
But I think what’s most important is that she likes toys that require her imagination. So many toys these days do the playing for kids, and I hate that. I’m all for puzzles, books, arts and crafts, legos, Barbies, Pixos, Only Hearts Club dolls, and whatever other “standard” toys that don’t require batteries but do require some imaginative play.
What types of toys do you prefer for your child?
Name: Alyssa
Name: Ryan

Barbies come with *painted on* clothes now? o_O When did that happen?
Now then, I don’t have any kids, but I grew up with things like puzzles, loads of craft supplies, Legos, stuffed animals, a few Barbies (not too many) and the like. I always liked Legos because nothing was ever the same, even if the pieces stayed the same.
Although one thing that I *loved* that I only ever played with at school is those marble sets. Like there’s a bunch of pieces that all connect and each time you can make a different way for the marbles to fall. I don’t think I’m explaining it right, lol.
