I mailed in Alyssa’s and Ryan’s preschool registrations about two weeks ago, and as of today there is exactly one month until they return to preschool — September 14th is their starting day. I can’t wait! They only go for a few hours, and it’s only for a few days each week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday for Alyssa; Monday & Wednesday or Wednesday & Friday — I’m not sure which — for Ryan), but I love the quiet time. Last year I took advantage of Alyssa being in preschool and Ryan being asleep (he only went for a few “trial runs” in late April and early May) to do some work. I was quite productive, despite being up early and being tired most of the time. So I am DEFINITELY looking forward to that again.
As ridiculous as it sounds, I’m definitely going to be taking advantage of the back to school sales. I need to pick up some kids clothes for both Alyssa and Ryan (Alyssa needs jeans, Ryan needs shirts, and they both need undershirts), and Ryan needs a backpack. Alyssa has a spiffy little Hello Kitty backpack that should serve her just fine in kindergarten (if she is still into Hello Kitty then), but we used a diaper bag for Ryan. Obviously he needs a “big kid” backpack, so he’ll fit right in with all of the other kids.
I’m anxious about Ryan returning to preschool. His behavior was kind of iffy last year, and the staff members tried hard, but they’re in over their heads with him. He has two evaluations set up, one on August 31st and another on September 17th, and until he goes through those we won’t be able to make any type of arrangements for therapists to accompany him to school. And if I remember correctly, it’s the September 17th evaluation that will result in getting a mobile therapist set up. The other evaluation will take care of his in-home therapy only.
Blah. Having a special needs child really makes things difficult at times.
