Dropping off the kidlets and picking them up from preschool three times a week has made me appreciate being a younger parent. I’m not even contemplating potential wrinkles on my face, but some of these other mothers look like they’re reaching an age where walk in tubs might be a good idea. Seriously… I mean no offense, but I do NOT think it’s a good idea to wait until you’re 35-40 to have your first child. Children, especially young children, have a LOT of energy, and there are many days when you’ll be running after them. And even typical days are just a whirlwind of activity from the time they get up until the time they go to bed. And that doesn’t include the housework!
I was 20 when I had Alyssa, and 22 when I had Ryan. A little young, yes, but Alyssa wasn’t planned, and once we had her we decided to take the plunge and have a second child then so we could plow through the raising of little sproglets all at once. And I think it’s working out quite nicely. The diaper bag days are done, the stroller days will soon be over, and hopefully Ryan will be out of diapers before his fourth birthday (dear god I hope so! Hey moms of autistic boys — when did they potty-train?). When Dan and I are 40 (42 for him, bwahaha), our kids will be in college or almost done with it. THAT is exciting — having our kids be independent and hopefully on their own while we’re still young enough to enjoy all that life has to offer!
How old were you when you had your child(ren)? Do you ever wish you had them when you were younger, or perhaps when you were older?
Name: Alyssa
Name: Ryan

I’m pretty happy with when I had Kenna. I always wanted to have kids in my 20s. My Dad had two more kids though after my parents divorced. They are now 8 and 5, and he’s 44. I feel bad for him tbh.
