Alyssa and Ryan love preschool (or pwee-cool, as Ryan calls it). They went back on September 14th. I took them in and picked them up on their first day, Dan and I did them together on their second day, and since he has been working a lot of morning shifts, I have done every drop-off and pick-up since then, with the exception of last Friday’s pick-up and this morning’s drop-off.
Alyssa is fitting in beautifully, of course. She has the same teacher that she did last year, Mrs. S. Ryan also has the same teacher that he had during his four day trial last year, Mrs. J. Mrs. J isn’t familiar at all with autistic children, but to give her credit she is really trying!
Starting this coming week Ryan will be attending a special preschool for autistic and developmentally delayed children. He’ll go to this school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 8:45am until 11:15am. He’ll continue to attend the regular preschool on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:15am until 11:45am. The cool thing about the special preschool? Because it’s provided by the state and for special-needs children, our school district will transport Ryan. I do need to take him in and pick him up on Tuesday, and quite possibly on Thursday as well, but within a week or so the transportation should be set up, and a mini-bus (or cheese, as we call them around here) or van will come directly to the house to get him and drop him off. I’m definitely looking forward to that!
So, that’s what’s up. My weekdays are getting pretty busy! Add in monthly play therapy sessions that the local autism and behavioral health center would like to have for Alyssa and Ryan (they’re geared towards special-needs children who need to learn how to play with their siblings), and I’ll be one busy girl all of the time!
