Alyssa’s fifth birthday is on October 27th. Since her birthday falls on a Tuesday this year, we’re going to hold her birthday party on Sunday the 25th. I sent the invitations out today. A little late, but with everything that’s been going on this month, I’m assuming I can sort of be forgiven for slacking a bit.
I do plan on sending out thank-you cards in a timely manner though!
Anyway, this year’s theme is Scooby Doo. So far we’ve done Winnie the Pooh, Blue’s Clues, butterflies and Hello Kitty. Alyssa is still very much in love with Hello Kitty and wanted to do it again this year, but I put my foot down and suggested she do something different. On Thursday I took her over to Party City to look at themes. She seemed interested in My Little Pony and a princess theme, but then she saw Scooby Doo, and that was that. She was set, despite the fact that the party theme is designed for boys and there’s no pink, purple or even red anywhere in sight.
As far as presents go, I went out gift shopping with Jason the other night, and he picked up a gift for her for her birthday, and two more for Christmas. My mom told me what she got for Alyssa while at Target this evening, and I’ve actually had some presents stashed away since late spring. I check out what’s on clearance in Target’s toy section and pick up interesting things as I see them. So far my great finds are a $50 Littlest Pet Shop set for $25, and a $79.99 Hello Kitty digital camera for $4.98. Too bad you can’t score such deals on things like cleaning products, lab coats and clothes, right? Although with Target, just about anything is eligible for being clearanced. I’m pretty sure I have found something in every single department that has been marked down to fifty or more percent off!

Sounds like an awesome theme, though I would have expected her to choose something more girly too! Interesting.
