I’m so tired of diapers

Ryan is still in diapers, and has shown no signs of being interested in making the transition to underwear. He does know when he pees and poops, and often tells us when he does the latter, so I suppose there’s some hope. Enough hope, in fact, that when I was at Target tonight and waited outside the family bathroom while Alyssa used it, and Ryan started squawking that he went poopy (which he did) and wanted to go potty, that I let him pick out a pack of Cars themed underwear. When we got home I cleaned him up, took the diapers away and put him in a pair. I then walked him into the bathroom and talked and showed him through the process of pushing down the underwear, getting up on the toilet and going potty. Ryan seemed pretty receptive to it all, so I was somewhat optimistic about maybe having a bit of success, especially because it was Ryan himself that initially brought up the subject of going potty tonight. …But about fifteen minutes after that he came in to tell me that he had gone poopy in his underwear.

*sigh*

One of these days, right? I’m thinking I’ll continue with the underwear though, at least during the day. I wouldn’t switch him over to underwear at night until he was fully potty trained, or at least having moderate success during the daytime. I’ll definitely need to get some more underwear though! Three pairs won’t go very far if he is going to be having accident after accident. However, I don’t think I’ll need to buy any, as I’m pretty sure my mom gave me several dozen pairs of Blue’s Clues and Scooby Doo underwear that were my brothers’. There’s no real gross factor though, because my mom bought them rather early on in the potty training process, gave up too quick and put my brothers back in diapers… translation? The underwear she gave me, while close to a decade old, is in near-new condition. Score!

Good luck with the potty training! We are in the same boat right now, except the part where Ethan DID use the potty for almost 4 months, but quit after the birth of his sister.

We in the same boat as well right now. He was just about potty trained (except he would NOT wear underwear due to sensory issues and knew how to remove his own diaper) then regressed when his sister was born. He obviously knows how to do it and very occasionally will say he has to go or just went –but he seems to have no interest in wanting to try anymore. Just know you’re not alone in that. Good luck with it!
