I’m dreaming of sand and sun

Category:

As much as I love the cooler weather, it’s hard to not think of summer and the beach when the lovely, crisp autumn leaves are weighed down with water, and the brittle corn fields have turned into huge mucky puddles, and the clear sky and white sun are obscured by foggy, hazy clouds. It’s been a rainy, dreary, drippy week, and I’m seriously looking forward to the return of sunshine.

Last summer Dan and I treated ourselves, the kids and my mom to a four day vacation in Ocean City, Maryland. We stayed in a motel. It was a bit cramped, sharing a 2 double bed room that had a table and two chairs, a small desk with another chair, a dresser, a fridge and microwave, a bathroom and Ryan’s playpen crammed in, but we managed. After all, we were only in the room to sleep and change. The rest of the time was spent poolside or oceanside.

But the year before, in June 2008, we had the opportunity to stay with Dan’s aunt and uncle in their rented beach house. The house was absolutely gorgeous, and as far as vacation rentals go, it was definitely affordable: $1700 for a week (seven days), 1.5 blocks from the ocean. The house had four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a large, open and airy kitchen, dining room and living room. There was also a fireplace, and the house was fully furnished with wall-to-wall carpeting, appliances, skylights, and even a large balcony off the kitchen and living room. In summary, this place was an absolute dream.

I want to try and plan our 2010 beach vacation a little more ahead of time — by March or April, instead of May or even June. If we plan early enough, we just may be able to swing our own vacation rental, and enjoying having an actual house to live in for the week! :)

    Come to Adelaide, Australia ;)
I’m a 5 minutes drive from the beach, and it’s currently Spring! (However, at the moment it’s actually a heatwave we’d normally see in mid summer :\ )
