When it comes to getting Alyssa birthday and Christmas presents, it’s in the bag. She’s a five year old little girl, so rather than ask what she doesn’t like, it’s more like what doesn’t she like? Glitter. Crayons. Jewelry. Pretend make-up. Crafts. Hello Kitty. Barbie. My Little Pony. Littlest Pet Shop. She’s all for it. The cuter and more expensive it is, the more she wants it.
Thennnnnnnnnnnnnnnn… there’s Ryan. Dear god this child makes gift buying difficult. What makes it even worse is that I not only have to rack my brain for ideas for Dan and I, but then I have to think of gift recommendations for my mother and Dan’s four siblings and various aunts and uncles, because nobody knows what to get Ryan. Poor kid. He doesn’t mean to be so difficult, but he is.
Lately though, he’s been getting a little bit better. Or let me put it this way — I’m a little more optimistic with present buying. He has shown interest in Megablocks, legos, cars, Ni Ha Kai Lan, and Wonder Pets. He’s still very much into his precious Wow Wow Wubbzy, and there’s no wooden puzzle that he doesn’t want, but he’s thinking outside the Ryan Box, which makes gift recommendations for others more interesting and varied.
I’m also adding Playmobil toys to the list. I was looking over their website tonight, just out of general interest, when Ryan comes over, sees what I’m doing and starts squealing “TOYS! MAH-YEE! TOYS!”. He kept wanting to look at more of them, exclaiming with each page, “ooooh!” and “ooh wow!”.
So there’s another idea I can file away. Of course I’d have to act on this idea sooner, since it’s online-based and there’s shipping times to take into consideration!

Thank god that my five year old isn’t the only one who wants the most expensive thing out there. She asked for a DSi this year… I can’t figure out what a five year old is going to do with a DSi, and needless to say she isn’t getting one.
