Life after gastric bypass

Every few days Alyssa asks me when I’m going to get small. In between those days she asks if my tummy still hurts. She’s so sweet (and yet so infuriating when it comes to her flouncy, drama queen attitude!). I explained to her prior to my surgery that I would be getting my stomach made smaller so that I could be smaller. Apparently she thought that would happen overnight? Heh, I wish! Diets, natural weight loss pills and even dramatic weight loss surgeries aren’t going to make for overnight results! Though that last one enabled me to drop 20 lbs. in two weeks. :)

Physically I’m healing just fine. No pain, infections or anything like that. With the exception of some trapped air issues that result in a bit of vomiting, I’m able to eat, and so far I’ve tolerated everything I’ve tried. I am having issues with dizziness and lightheadedness, and not being able to eat and drink at the same time (I have to wait at least thirty minutes between the two) makes it even more difficult to get all of the nutrition and fluid in. But I’m trying. I watch the clock and eat every 3-4 hours, and I sip water constantly in between. Right now I haven’t had anything to drink in close to 45 minutes, but that’s because I’m waiting for my husband to get home so I can try some mac & cheese. The macaroni & cheese is here, but I’m afraid to try new foods without someone around, in case I get sick or dump from it.

Dealing with the kids is even more exhausting since I’m dealing with just being week post-op and from the nutrition issues, but I’m doing my best. Dan went back to work over a week ago, but our friend Jason has been over several times to help me with naptimes and bedtimes. He’s our best friend, and I’m so grateful for his help right now. ♥ I hope that we can return the favor somehow, someday…

Anyway, tomorrow morning Alyssa’s preschool class has a field trip to a train store, and I’m going to tag along with Ryan. We don’t have to be there until 10:00am, so that should give me some extra time to eat some breakfast before we go!
