Mad season

The other day I went to visit a friend in the hospital. She had gastric bypass surgery just like I did, only hers was on December 7th, while I had mine last month, on November 18th. She told me that she had to wait in the recovery room for FIVE hours because all of the hospital rooms were filled. Apparently a lot of people are getting all sorts of crazy injuries lately. It’s been a nonstop rush since Thanksgiving, and hospital staff expect it to continue until New Year’s Day. What gives, people? Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s… they’re just holidays. They’re fun, exciting, loving, family-oriented holidays, but at the end of the day… they’re just another day, and they end. It’s not worth getting injured or killed over.

I hate how stores take such disgusting advantage of the fact that it’s the holidays. Companies will push ANY product in the name of Black Friday or Christmas. From Cadillac crossovers to baby shower invitations to windows… what the hell do any of those things have to do for Christmas? If a Cadillac is a gift given for Christmas, well hell, sign me up with that family!

Speaking of madness, I refused to do any Black Friday shopping for the purpose of scoring Black Friday specials. I did go out in the afternoon, but that was just to do some general shopping. I still need to pick up a few things for the kids for Christmas, but they’re halfway set right now… two presents each under the tree, and two more presents for each that we need to get wrapped. We don’t bother to go crazy with presents for the kids, since Dan’s family showers them with all sorts of goodies.
