I took Alyssa to my mother’s house yesterday afternoon. My mom invited her over for the weekend, and the timing was perfect, as Danielle and Matt came down to stay with us for the weekend, and I always give them Alyssa’s room to stay in (Alyssa comes and sleeps with us, or with Ryan). Well, my mom called me last night to say that she wanted to take Alyssa to the Please Touch Museum today, and would Ryan be interested in coming along? She didn’t have to ask me twice! Ryan had gone to bed by 8:30pm, so he was up and ready to go by 9 this morning, and I got him dressed, fed him breakfast, told him he was going out, and packed a tote bag with diapers, baby wipes, a few small toys and a spare change of clothes. My mom and Alyssa arrived a little bit after 10:00am, and by 10:30am I was kid-free!
Am I a bad mommy because I was thrilled about having a day to myself? Of course not.
After watching some TV, Danielle, Matt and I ran to the grocery store to pick up a few things for dinner tonight and meals tomorrow, and then we hit up the mall. After an hour spent finding parking, the food court and then an empty table in the food court, we settled down to eat. Well, they ate. I had a few well-chewed bites of chicken, lo mein and the cheese & crab filling of a cheese won-ton.
Then we went shopping! First we hit up Victoria’s Secret, where Danielle picked up some Pink body wash and I nabbed So Sexy shampoo and conditioner, and a yummy vanilla & sandalwood scented perfume that was too beautiful smelling to pass up.
Then it was into Sephora, where Danielle and I both used $15 coupons to our advantage. Hello glitter! I absolutely love anything that sparkles, and left Sephora with two eye shadows and a sheer pink (glittery, of course) lip gloss.
Our final stop was in New York & Co., where Danielle and Matt treated me to a very sassy, very cute rainbow scarf (thanks guys!), and Danielle got herself a cute black wallet.
After leaving the mall, we ran into Target so I could exchange a too-small camera case I had picked up for the Kodak Zi8 that Jason gave me for Christmas. I did find a better-fitting camera case, and Danielle and I purchased matching silver purses, and I did some unexpected Christmas shopping. Unexpected, but definitely welcome, as I wanted to get two more things for Ryan, and one more thing for Alyssa. They each have six Christmas presents, plus some stocking stuffers. I think that’s pretty!
So, that was how I spent my kid-free day: shopping with Danielle and Matt!
If you could get a kid-free day, how would you spend it?
