Are the kids staying up until midnight?

Now there’s a question I’ve been getting a lot this year. Jason even brought over a bottle of sparkling grape juice for the kids to have. I don’t know about letting Alyssa and Ryan stay up until midnight. Or in any case, I don’t know if I should let Ryan stay up until midnight. He gets cranky when he’s overtired, and no matter when he goes to bed he will almost always still get up when he normally does — which these days is between 8:30am and 9:30am.

I probably will go ahead and let Alyssa stay up until midnight. I did last night, since Jason was over and the four of us (Dan, Jason, Alyssa and myself) were having so much fun playing Super Mario Bros. But Ryan is most definitely going to bed within the next half hour. He’s only up now because he slept later than usual today!

At what age do you let your kids stay up to watch the ball drop and ring in the new year?
