There are three problematic areas in our house: our closet, Alyssa’s closet and Ryan’s closet. They tend to be the catch-all for things that otherwise don’t have a place, and since nobody but us ever sees the insides of them, and even then that’s not all of the time, I have a habit of slacking on keeping them organized. Our closet I’ve kept after a few times since we moved here almost three years ago, but the kids’ closet? I’m ashamed to admit that until today I never bothered to maintain them.
But as I type this, Alyssa’s closet and Ryan’s closet are spectacularly organized and bare. It took me about an hour to do Ryan’s closet and a half hour to do Alyssa’s, but the result is a garbage can full of trash, and the entire trunk of my car being filled with clothing, toys and baby gear for donation. There are more items stacked up in a corner of the kitchen waiting to be donated, including some nice toys that are in great condition, several pristine stuffed animals, an umbrella stroller (the only reason I had it to begin with is because I received it for free when I did some massive pre-Alyssa shopping at Toys ‘r Us) and a car seat. I’ll be adding another car seat to the growing donation pile, as soon as I get it out of Dan’s car.
I seriously could not believe some of the things I pulled out of their closets. After the random things I found, I wouldn’t be surprised if I came across some spare Ferrari parts, or the set of car keys Dan lost in November 2007, or the set of car keys I lost the previous spring. But what I did find included some of my brother’s text books, leftover Halloween candy, random socks, a Comcast remote, and some cloth diapers that Ryan outgrew at least a year ago.
The only closet that’s left is ours, and I’ve made a HUGE dent in it — and by dent I mean moving three quarters of the clothing that was in there and putting them in Ryan’s closet for my mom and Danielle to go through and take their pick of. Whatever is left will be donated to the local shelter, and I know the women there will greatly appreciate receiving some nice Fashion Bug, Lane Bryant and Target clothing!
So, has anyone else started their spring cleaning yet? Or am I the only early bird?

I did a major spring cleaning back in September and November last year as I wanted to start off this year with a clean slate.
It does feel great to get rid of stuff that isn’t being worn and or used.

We haven’t started our spring cleaning around here yet. We need to as we have a ton of stuff to go through since my roommate’s dad passed away last year and we still have a lot of his stuff that her mom wants to donate, but haven’t started yet. Maybe that’s what we should be doing since we are practically snowed in here.
