What is it with little kids not understanding the concept of “Kid, it’s seriously fucking freezing out there, and you are NOT playing in sub-zero temps”? Lately it’s been cold as balls around here. I’m talking low 30s… in the middle of a sunny day, and without taking the wind chill into consideration. We live at an elevation of 900 or so, and we’re surrounded by a lot of farm land (fields = no trees!), so we have no protection from the brutal, blustering winds that have been ripping through here lately. At night the temps have been going down to 17° or below, and again, that number does not take into account the wind chill.
So yes, it’s cold. I’ve been bundling the kids up in sweat suits, hoodies, layers of shirts, thick slipper socks, etc., and when we do go out, they look like fabric marshmallows, what with all the layers plus heavy winter coats and a topping of hats and thick gloves.
So, I’m appealing to you guys for indoor entertainment ideas! We have Play-doh, a Floam knock-off, Pixos, and drawers full of all sorts of paints, glitter paints, markers, crayons, colored pencils, coloring books and blank paper. Then there’s the toys, Little Big Planet for the PS3 and Super Mario Bros. and Wii Sports for the Wii. But still… the kidlets are getting bored, and I’m getting bored. There are days where we’re practically bouncing off the walls. They’re not interested in the activities and toys they’ve got, and I certainly don’t feel like researching and writing about wedding favors.
So, the question: when you’re stuck indoors for days on end, what do you do to make the days interesting?
