Both Alyssa and Ryan had Valentine’s Day parties at preschool this week. Unfortunately for them and their classmates, those parties never happened, because preschool never happened. Whenever there’s a 2-hour delay in our school district, preschool is automatically closed. There was a 2-hour delay on Monday because of Saturday’s snow storm, which left secondary and back roads a mess for quite a few days. And another two feet of snow dumped itself on us Tuesday into Wednesday, so there were two more 2-hour delays on Wednesday morning and Friday morning.
Before Christmas there was a 2-hour delay, and so technically preschool was closed, but because it was the last day of preschool before the holiday break, the teachers called the parents, and we all decided to eff the delay, we could handle the roads, and so help us the kids were going to make it in for their holiday parties and visits with Santa Claus. I’m hoping that the Valentine’s Day parties will be re-scheduled for whenever the kids do go back to school (next Monday, so long as Mother Nature doesn’t go apeshit on us again). Trust me, I wouldn’t have wanted any of the parents to agree to bring their kids in on Wednesday or Friday. The amount of snow we have is INSANE, and if I had to drive on those treacherous roads again, I’d need a strong anti aging product once I made it home in one piece. So, I hope that the Valentine’s Day parties will be rescheduled once the kids are back at preschool. And if they are, I plan on making pink & red heart-shaped Rice Krispie treats, and chocolate Cheerio marshmallow treats. The Rice Krispie treats are for Ryan’s class, and the chocolate Cheerio treats are for Alyssa’s class, since one of her classmates’ parents already signed up for Rice Krispie treats.
Am I lame for wanting to always go above and beyond the typical party offering? A bottle of juice, a bag of chips, a box of crackers… it’s quick and easy and almost thoughtless to offer those items for parties. I think it’s nice to do something homemade that is also creative and appropriately decorated for the occasion at hand.
Seriously, which would YOU rather bring to a party?

That’s what I thought.
