Get out of my stuff

Category:

You know what’s frustrating? Your kids thinking that your stuff is also their stuff. I don’t know what your school of thought is, but around here, you don’t just help yourself to my things. Ryan isn’t too bad about this, though he has been known to polish off obscene amounts of applesauce and cheese in one sitting, and to help himself to more without necessarily asking. But Alyssa? Gah. She goes after my makeup — my glitter, my lip glosses, occasionally my eye shadows. I hate when she gets into my glitter, because it’s Caboodle glitter that I had to special-order off of eBay a few years back, because they don’t make it anymore. Needless to say, I don’t want her getting into it! I don’t want her in my eye shadow either, since each palette I have is $12 – $18. Grrr.

Both kids also go after my printer paper, staplers, and scotch tape. This is despite having two large DRAWERS fully stocked with all sorts of art supplies.

See? STOCKED! Every time I find they have taken something without permission, they get warned. They do it again in the same day, they get a time-out. But Alyssa is smart… she’ll take something once, get her warning, then repeat the same thing a few days later. Is she old enough to be put on a time-out for committing a second offense in more than a 24-hour time period? I’m thinking yes. She’s old enough to know better. It’s not like she needs a click here to learn more link in regards to what I’m telling her.

Bottom line: my stuff = my stuff. Hands off, unless you’re told otherwise!

  1. Having seen friends go through the same thing, I’ve come to the conclusion that it must be because they see the adults using that stuff and so they want to use it too. It is almost as if the fact that an adult uses an item makes the item somehow more desirable. :/
