It’s officially spring in a little over an hour — 1:32pm — and it’s definitely a beautiful spring day. As I type this I’m sitting at a long picnic table that is situated just outside of a completely fenced-in playground. It’s one of those large, sprawling wooden playgrounds, with wooden maze-like structures, towers and turrets, with plenty of climbing equipment and tire swings sprinkled throughout. There are loads of benches and cozy nookes interspersed throughout the playground, as well as a few picnic tables off to the side of the area where the swings are at. There’s also a large sandbox — by far, Alyssa’s favorite aspect of this park.
The sun is shining, a light breeze is blowing, birds are chirping, and the temperature is probably around 65°. Believe it or not, while I appreciate this kind of weather, I’d much rather have the temperature be five or so degrees cooler. But hey, I’ll take what I can get! And since I seem to have temperature regulating issues and am quite comfortable wearing my mom’s fleece hoodie, I guess this temperature is perfect after all.
Anyway, we’re doing the whole play & eat thing today. The kids are playing in the playground, and my mom and I teamed up to provide a nice lunch. She brought drinks, snacks and sandwich condiments, and I brought rolls, lunch meat, cheese, and mayonnaise. Then my mom and fourteen year old brother made a convenience store run for beef bologna, and they brought back bags of Skittles and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups with them. So now Alyssa and Ryan don’t want to eat their sandwiches and applesauce. Grrrr.
