THIS is the year we’re getting a season pool membership. I have been saying that for the last four years, but this is the year we are doing it. It’s $6 a person to get in if you don’t have a season membership, and while that doesn’t sound like a lot, if you’re paying for 2-4 people to go 2-3 times a week, that quickly adds up! Meanwhile, a season pool membership is $230 — $207 if we get it in before April 1st, 2010. That’s definitely a great buy!
Now it’s just a matter of making sure that this is indeed the pool we want a seasonal membership for. There are two local community pools, and both are about the same distance from our house – five or so miles, just in different directions. The pool we usually go to, the Q pool, is large, designed in a T-shape, and goes up to six feet. The diving end is 10-12 feet. There’s also a cute little mushroom fountain in the kids’ end, which is a gradual slope from the ground around it, so that part is nice. There are also several picnic tables under a pavilion, and plenty of grassy areas, trees for shade, and chaises.
Then there’s the S pool. It’s probably a third of the size of the Q pool, no lie. I’m sure there are private Outer Banks vacation homes with larger pools! That’s good and bad. Good as far as Ryan and keeping track of him is concerned, bad in terms of, well, SIZE. I don’t like crowding people in pools, and I definitely don’t like being crowded by people! But on the plus side, the lifeguards seemed much more understanding of Ryan’s need to be away from people, unlike a little snot-nosed shithead twerp at the Q pool, who outright accused me of being a neglectful mother for not physically hovering over Ryan every single second. Worth noting: he was within eyesight of both myself and my mother or husband (whoever happened to be with me at the time), and wore a very snug-fitting rubber tube that you physically cannot go under the water with, nor could you take it off on your own. But anyway…
Despite the twerp issues from last year, I think I’ll go ahead and sign us up for the Q pool. It’s much larger, and the pavilion and availability of so much grassy area and chaises are both very appealing factors!
I plan on sending in our application for it along with the money when we get our next paychecks. I can’t wait until we have our pool passes in hand! Then there will be no excuse not to go and enjoy ourselves several times a week.
