She really is. Alyssa may be fiercely independent and have a stubborn streak (the former she inherited from me; the latter she inherited from her father), but she’s a total sweetheart. Yesterday afternoon, after Dan and I arrived home from my procedure, I said hi to Alyssa and Ryan, then told them I wanted to go take a nap.
Not five minutes later Alyssa comes in with her blanket and stuffed animal, and ever-so-gently tucks me into bed, then gets in beside me. She asked if my stomach hurt (like I told her it did after I had my gastric bypass surgery in November), and then asked if I wanted my laptop, or if she should bring both laptops in so her and I could both use them. I told her no thanks, I just wanted to watch TV (I was watching House) and then take a nap. She seemed cool with that, so after laying with me for a few more minutes, she gave me a kiss, and then tip-toed out.
But she forgot all about me needing my rest, since not an hour later she and Ryan were screaming like banshees. Oh well. If the worst thing I can say about my kids is that they’re excessively squealy, I’d say we’re pretty fortunate!

Aw! How sweet! Cherish this while it’s still here. Once she hits teenage hood who knows if she’ll still be as sweet!
