Last summer I picked up a cute long-sleeved tie-dye shirt for Ryan while we were on the boardwalk. At the time I wasn’t looking for tie-dye in particular, just a long-sleeved shirt that would protect Ryan’s sunburned arms (not a bad burn, but enough to be irritated from further exposure to the sun). The only thing I was able to find in his size was tie-dye, so that’s what he got.
Anyway, Ryan has been very into his tie-dye shirt recently. He would wear it day-in and day-out if I would let him. But now that it’s getting hot, the long sleeves have got to go. He was upset, understandably, but he perked right up today when Dan and I got out the essentials for tie-dying a few shirts! I had picked up a little $6 tie-dye kit last year, and it provided enough dye for Alyssa and Ryan to dye two shirts each. They had a great time! It was well worth putting off a new design for wedding invitations for. Right now the shirts are chilling in saran wrap in our bath tub; tonight after the kids are in bed I’ll run them through a hot wash cycle in order to further “set” the colors.
Something tells me Alyssa and Ryan will be wearing their new tops tomorrow.
(Psst… you know those gloves they include in the tie-dye kits? It might be a good idea to actually USE them, lol. I wonder how long it’ll take for this dye to wear off of my hands…)
Name: Alyssa
Name: Ryan
Yay for tie-dye! I can still wear the shirt I made when I was a little older than Alyssa.
