For an evening, anyway. Dan and I are having a rare kid-free night. We don’t have those too often. The last one was on April 15th, the one before that was sometime in March, and the one before that was a few weeks before Christmas! My mom is babysitting, and she knows from past experience to bring her meds and a change of clothes, just in case Dan and I wind up having a long night out, haha. Not the kind of night you’d need hospital disinfectant to clean up after, but certainly one that requires a good sleeping-in to recover from.
I think it’s important for couples and single parents to get away for a few hours here and there. Sure, you love your kids and they mean everything to you, but that doesn’t mean that you aren’t deserving of or entitled to a break here and there. And if you go out in the evening or later at night, when they’ll be asleep, then you don’t need to worry about them being awake and possibly missing you or causing problems for the babysitter. Like in my mom’s case, all she has to do is physically be there. Not too shabby of a deal for her, especially since she gets to enjoy cable television and internet service — two luxuries she doesn’t have right now!
