This post is inspired by the current weather, which is mid 60′s, overcast, and very rainy. It isn’t raining hard, but it’s raining steadily, and if Weather.com is correct, we’ll get anywhere from one to two inches of rain between today and tonight. Lucky us. Anyway, days like this are both a blessing and a curse in terms of being parent. On one hand, it’s nice to have an excuse to keep the kids inside. Let’s face it, chasing after them is quite boring at times, and when it’s hot and gross out, chasing after them is also uncomfortable! It’s easier to write about hip hop clothing, have work conferences and do general work things when I’m not having to be inside and outside at the same time.
But the flip side is having to come up with productive indoor activities. On rainy indoors-only days like these, we usually do any, some or all of the following:
- popcorn and a movie
- Play-doh (I deliberately keep this stuff out of sight so that it’s not often thought of; this way it’s “fresh” for a rainy day)
- Paints
- Arts and crafts
- Puzzles and games
We also go to indoor places on rainy days, including McDonald’s with the indoor playgrounds (psst… all McDonald’s now offer free wifi!!!), the dreaded Chuck E. Cheese, and sometimes the local movie theater, which offers matinee moves for just $2!
What do you do on rainy days?
