VBS is where it’s at

Around here vacation bible school is all the rage. Vacation bible school, or VBS, is just a fancy term for a religion-based camp that takes place for a few hours in the evening for about a week. We just received a flyer for one that starts tomorrow, and you better believe I have both Alyssa and Ryan signed up. Since preschool let out they have both been bored and going a little stir-crazy, though Ryan is fortunate to have his IU13 preschool to continue attending (they go year round, though there are 1 week breaks every few months). I have nothing against church and religion, and since their “regular” preschool was held at a church, this shouldn’t be too much different.

What I love the most about VBS is that transportation is provided. Since this is a rural area, the sponsoring church usually sends around a school bus or a 15-passenger van to pick up all of the kids. So in addition to the two hours Alyssa and Ryan will be spending at VBS for the next five nights (for some reason the popular time slot for VBS is Sunday – Thursday), there’s also the 20-30 minutes they’ll spend on the bus before and after. That translates into close to three hours of kid-free time for me. Whoo hoo!
